May 2026 Students of the Month

Joliet Catholic Academy President/Principal Dr. Jeffrey Budz is pleased to announce the May Students of the Month: Lindsey Alcantar (Kiwanis Club), Brennan Lakota (Lions Club), and Abigail Shinners (Rotary Club). JCA is proud of the success these students have exhibited in both the classroom and in the community.

Lindsey Alcantar, daughter of Rita Guzman and Prudencio Alcantar of Joliet, is a graduate of Troy Middle School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Spanish Honor Society, for which she is president. Lindsey is an Illinois State Scholar, was named one of the Top 25 Joliet area seniors and has received numerous academic awards across all subjects throughout her four years at JCA. She is president of the Spanish Club and has served as captain for the varsity cross country and golf teams as well as the junior varsity soccer team. She is busy outside of her school duties as she is an ESL-Citizenship and nursing home volunteer and assists with horseback riding for children with special needs. Lindsey will attend University of Illinois Chicago and plans to major in pre-dental/biochemistry. She would then like to attend dental school.  

Brennan Lakota, son of Jody and Anton Lakota of Plainfield, is a graduate of Holy Family Grade School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta, for which he is an officer. He has won academic awards in Spanish and theology. Brennan is the Economics Club secretary and also participates in Key Club, Robotics Club, Habitat for Humanity, Big Buddies Little Buddies, and is a Student Ambassador and Kairos retreat leader. He was also a two-time State runner-up for football and a member of the varsity tennis team. Outside of his school responsibilities, Brennan volunteers with the Joliet FOP Labor Union and enjoys going to the gym. Brennan will attend Indiana University and plans to major in finance and accounting and minor in economics. He would eventually like to pass the CPA and work for one of the “Big Four” accounting and advisory firms.  

Abigail Shinners, daughter of Karen and Scott Shinners of Lockport, is a graduate of St. Jude Grade School. Abigail is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and International Thespian Honor Society. She is an Illinois State Scholar, was named one of the Top 25 Joliet area seniors and has received academic awards for biology and physics. Throughout her years at Joliet Catholic Academy, Abigail has been active in Drama Club, for which she has served as vice president, scribe and received a Best Actress award; Medical Science Club; Key Club; Yearbook Club; and is a Student Ambassador and Kairos retreat leader. She keeps busy outside of school as she has participated in the Northwestern Medicine Discovery Program and is a summer volunteer for the hospital as well as at Feed My Starving Children. Abigail plans to attend Texas Christian University where she will major in nursing and minor in psychology. She would like to become a pediatric ICU or ER nurse.
