Academic Resource Center
The Academic Resource Center complements the JCA curriculum by offering support to those students diagnosed with mild-to-moderate specific learning disabilities and/or attention deficit disorder. Students entering this program will receive supplemental instruction one period per day in a small group setting with an emphasis on the academic content of their college preparatory classes. The Academic Resource Center complements the Joliet Catholic Academy, college preparatory curriculum by creating an environment of equal access for students with documented disabilities, including:
- Mild to Moderate learning disabilities
- ADD/ADHD
- High-functioning Autism
- Chronic Health impairments
Participation in this program may include:
- One period a day educational support with an ARC staff member
- Testing accommodations in the Academic Resource Center
- Monitoring of student progress through consultation with regular education teachers and counselors
Accommodations:
Accommodations provided and which must be documented on an ISP or 504 Plan include:
- Inclusion within the ARC program
- Extended time (time and one half only) on tests
- Readers/Scribe for assessments
- Assistive technology
- *Accommodations that fundamentally alter the nature of coursework or the materials assigned, or are unduly burdensome financially or administratively, will not be provided.
These may include:
- Reduction in the number of test questions
- Longer completion time for class assignments
- “Chunking” of material
- One on one educational support
- Modification of grading scale
Admissions Criteria:
Documentation of a disability that would include one or more of the following:
- Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
- Individualized Service Plan (ISP)
- Psycho-educational battery assessment
- Diagnostic report from a physician or other health care provider
